Save Our Beautiful Game, a premium docuseries on Peter Crouch’s fight to save Britain’s local football clubs and the communities they belong to

Discovery UK has today announced the commission of Save Our Beautiful Game (w/t) for discovery+ UK. The Workerbee (part of Banijay UK) produced 8×60 series sees footballing legend Peter Crouch return to his roots to try to reverse the fortunes of one lucky non-league community focussed football club. This is a story of Britain’s 40,000 grassroots football clubs and the vital role they play in local communities.

The impact of Covid-19 has left many grassroots football clubs in desperate need of help before they disappear for good. Cue Crouchy! Using his Premier League knowledge, experience and charm, Crouch is on a mission to turn one club around and do whatever it takes to save it. He wants to highlight that grassroots clubs are the training grounds of future stars and at a time when big money is severing the bond clubs have with their supporters, community grassroots clubs have never been more important.

Over the course of the 2021/22 season Peter will join the Board of Directors and be putting his skills as a newly qualified coach to the test as he sets his heart on elevating the team. Peter is armed with big ideas to pull in the punters. Will he treat supporters to a half-time DJ set and a ‘robot’ dance? The cameras will follow Peter as he returns home to his family as they support him on this passion project.

Simon Downing, SVP Marketing and Head of Content, Factual and Sport at Discovery, said:

“We’re beyond thrilled to welcome Save Our Beautiful Game (w/t) to discovery+. The series takes us through an important narrative of community-loved grassroots sports interwoven with heart-lifting scenes of Peter’s homecoming to support local teams. It’s a fantastic story that will undoubtedly resonate with Discovery’s passionate sports fans!”
